This Cub Fan wants to congratulate the Cardinals for once again playing pretty bad till the end of the season and sneaking into the playoffs and winning yet again another World Series. Kinda like the 2006 World Championship. I just don’t know how they do it.

Being in a mixed marriage (he is Cardinals, I am Cubs) I root for the Cardinals except when they play the Cubs. My Dad was a die hard Cardinal fan, so I am familiar with the territory. I found myself buying my husband a Championship t-shirt today. I have no animosity toward the Cardinals. So here is what I don’t understand……………

Why do Cardinal fans hate the Cubs? I could understand Cub fans not liking Cardinal fans…jealousy of their records, the World Series etc. During the World Series, on Facebook I saw more spewing of nastiness from Cardinal fans toward Cub fans and I just don’t get it. These comments were not in response to anything a Cub fan had said. Just zings and nasty arrows with no provocation. Why not just enjoy a great ending to a less than inspirational season? Why can’t they just celebrate a good thing without having to try to make someone feel bad.

We Cub fans are patient people, we handle disappointment well and I would say we make great “friends”…….who is more loyal than a Cub fan?

The Women’s City Club at the corner of 16^th & Maine may be sold. The Lorenzo Bull House was donated to QPD and left in their care. The property has not been kept up nor repairs made as needed through the years. Now they want to investigate selling it. Where will this leave the Art Center?  The Quincy School District just sold the property down the street to land developers from Dallas. Will the Women’s City Club have the same fate?

Lenane Park is to be sold or traded. Where is Lenane Park? A search of the QPD website brings no answers.

The southwest portion of South Park is being looked at to be a dog park or traded for park space in southeast Quincy.

The Quincy Park District has a history of having very valuable items and properties donated to it and giving their word that these things will be taken care of and then they claim they don’t have the money. A current example is the Quincy Park Band stage. This very expensive item was donated to the Quincy Park Band. The Quincy Park District then took possession with the assurance they would maintain it and the reports are it has now fallen into disrepair.

The log cabins on Quinsippi Island are to be brought up to “code” or they must be removed. These cabins were donated to the Quincy Park District with the understanding that the QPD would maintain them. Years later when they were in disrepair a group of concerned citizens was formed to save these parts of our history. These folks have put thousands of dollars, not to mention thousands hours of labor into the revival of the log cabins.  Friends of the Log Cabins have met all the recent requests of the QPD but every time they jump through one hoop, another hoop appears. It seems that a group that was formed to aid the Park District has become their foe.

Most Quincyans have fond memories of visiting the log cabins as children. Now, if the Quincy Park District has its way your children will not have the same opportunity.

Our taxes continue to rise but we can’t afford to keep up the properties we have? Something needs to be done…..any suggestions?

In my family, our Easter traditions have always been going to my parents for Easter dinner complete with ham and all the fixings including the best potato salad in the world!  My mother and I would prepare everything while the rest of the family would anticipate “dinner is served”.  My son would disperse all the eggs stuffed with goodies around the yard (under our supervision. My son is 6’4″ and had a tendency to hide the eggs in places no one could reach).  The house would be busy with children running around, decked out in their Easter outfits, waiting for the Easter egg hunt.   We had to keep a close eye on 1 of my grand-daughters.  She would sneak out of the house to discover where the eggs were hidden before the other kids could find them. After dinner, we would turn the kids loose to find their loot.  The hours of work and preparation were always well worth it when we got to see the kids having so much fun!

This year, we are changing up our tradition a bit.  This is our 1st Easter without my dad.  The festivities have been moved to my house.  The torch has been passed and I find myself in the position of Matriarch of the family.  The torch did not include the recipe for the world’s best potato salad, but for the most part, our Easter celebration will remain the same.  Delicious food, the company of family, Easter egg hunt, and smiling children.

I suppose my vacation color scheme wasn’t as difficult of a decision as I thought. I looked into my closet and since most everything there was either black or white, my decision was made for me. Black and White with a little red and some yellow thrown in and I now have my vacation wardrobe. Now I’m not sure whether to roll the clothes so they won’t wrinkle as I usually do or whether to be Martha Stewart and put tissue between each piece. I guess if I need to give a gift while I am away I would then have the wrapping paper. Those of you who know me know I’ll go the easy way… rolling.

I am about to embark on our annual vacation. I am about to do the most difficult part of vacationing..pack clothes. We are going to Hawaii so the weather is not a problem as their weather rarely changes more than 10 degrees. I have the swimsuit and cover-up on the list but how many pairs of shorts? capris? dresses or skirts? Then there are the tops. Can each top do double duty? Can it go with shorts and a skirt?  Should I choose a basic color and work around that? That makes selecting shoes much easier. How am I supposed to know what mood I am going to be in? I dress according to mood. Some days I feel like a girly girl and others a tom boy. I wish there was a uniform for vacationers. It sure would make vacationing easier. I know it sounds very ungrateful to whine about going on vacation. Don’t get me wrong…I am excited to go, I just wish I could go with an empty suitcase and buy new each day. Aaah but that takes a way bigger vacation budget than I have.

I’ll keep you posted on what colors I decide to go with.

Cotton has gone up 125% and may go higher. So hang on to all those jeans, t-shirts, sweaters etc. You may want to wear them till they wear out. Our disposable society may be hanging on to things longer.

Combine all this with the fact that the dollar has already devalued by 6% and you can plan on paying more for everything.

Our website is supposed to be a happy, fun place but occasionally we have to warn you of reality. And reality is….be prepared for the coming inflation!
